There is No Off Switch in Your Brain to Stop Business Thinking

September 30, 2016 Adam Sonnhalter

The Dirty Secret of the Week on the weekly radio show with Jack Mencini and Adam Sonnhalter, host of Dirty Secrets of Small Business, is that there is no “off switch” on your brain to stop thinking about your business.

Being business coaches and business partners with Maximum Value Partners, Jack and Adam counsel their clients to try and turn their thoughts off whether it be with their family at home or out at a restaurant. Your thoughts go through an obsession with seeing other businesses and how they do things and you try to connect those things with your business.

The best business owners are thinking about business all the time, but they have recognized that there are inappropriate times to constantly think about the business and be totally off in another world with their thought process.

As a business owner, you see opportunities and have thoughts that just come in your head about your business. It is unfair to have those thoughts be “on” constantly because you are not in the moment of being with your family or being in the moment with others who care about you. You can’t take every situation you are in and internalize it on how this will work within your business. It could be the wait staff who gives you good service and you start wondering how you could find a good employee like that. Try to keep it simple and realize that you need to recognize when this is happening and try to turn the thought process off.

Jack and Adam’s dirty secret of the week: If you want to know how well run an establishment or business is, a good indicator is their bathrooms. Check out a company’s bathroom or a businesses bathrooms to see how clean and orderly they are . This will give you a good insight into how well run the overall business is. For more Dirty Secrets of Small Business and prior podcasts, call into the show every Monday at noon (EST) 440-946-9468 to talk with Jack and Adam about your small business challenges.
