September 15, 2014 – Cleveland, OH – Even the most successful businesses need a little help sometimes and it’s the business owners that know when to ask for it that catapult themselves to the next level. This was the case with Joe Butler, owner of Prescription Fitness. When business at his flagship location, 27101 Knickerbocker Road in Bay Village, started to plateau after the recession hit, Joe knew it was time to seek out some advice not only on how to retain success but also on how to grow.
“I became very receptive to coaching because I realized that I needed a long-term business strategy to be continually successful,” said Joe.
Butler found a solution with Maximum Value Partners (MVP), who specialize in helping small business owners answer the question of “how” – how to expand, how to restructure, how to make more money, how to make the next big leap. Thanks to Adam Sonnhalter and Jack Mencini at MVP, Prescription Fitness has added two locations – one in Strongsville and another in Broadview Heights – and expanded the flagship location in a little under four years. They are on the fast track to attain $1 million in profit with the opening of a 15th location within the next 10 years.
“One of the things that was made clear to me by MVP when we first got together is that if you have a vision, it begins to happen. You attract the right people – for your team and in terms of clients,” said Joe. “They told me that once I put together a 10 year plan and put it out there, people who can help you make that plan happen start to present themselves. You can do anything in 10 years – you just need to visualize it and move forward.”
And that’s what’s happening at Prescription Fitness. Offering on-site personal training, Prescription Fitness started out with some great trainers and a single gym in Bay Village. They now offer group training sessions as well as individual sessions, speed training for athletes at three location and classes and rentals at the newly expanded Bay Village facility. The core business is the same – great trainers that create a personalized training program that fits your time, your budget and your lifestyle.
“When I first met with MVP, Adam and Jack asked me what I wanted to accomplish so I tossed out $1 million in profit. With their help, I was able to develop a business model to expand and manage that expansion,” said Joe. “They keep me accountable to my goal and I have no doubt we’ll be able to achieve it.”
MVP applies a “Seven Keys to Success” framework to the development of a business strategy that is customized to fit the needs and goals of the individual business owner. The “Seven Keys to Success” are:
- Vision
- Profit Plan
- Marketing Plan
- Organizational Plan
- Leadership
- Cash Flow Forecast
- Presentation
“Between the two of us we’ve owned, operated, bought and sold dozens of successful businesses and have been helping small business owners attain their own level of success for more than a decade,” said Adam. “Our experience has taught us to be able to identify weaknesses and develop new strengths for our clients. So much of what we do is nuance. It’s the experience that we bring to the table that sets us apart.”
Each week Joe meets with Adam and Jack for a two hour coaching session where they discuss the philosophy of the business, staying on track with the long-term business strategy they developed together and work on putting out fires.
““We enjoy working with Joe – like all the clients we work with, he has a desire to learn,” said Jack. “You have to have a desire and a drive to win; to listen; to push back and try new things and to grow.”
“I think I saved a lot of trial and error thanks to the experience of Adam and Jack both as business owners and coaches,” said Joe. “I might have gotten there eventually but working with them saved me time and money. It also gave me the confidence to move forward – I know I can trust their advice and if they tell me to move on my ideas, it’ll work.”
