Jack will be truly missed
Adam Sonnhalter reflects on when he first met Jack and how they became partners.
November 17, 2023
While I don’t remember how many times I caddied for Jack or what his scores were when I did, I do remember the first time I caddied for him. I was caddying for Jack and another member in a weekend tournament. Now, this wasn’t some big amateur tournament or even a club championship.

Sad. Adam, I’m so sorry. Your message brought up so much. The first time I met Jack he was so pleasant, he treated me with so much grace (respect). And humor. He didn’t know me but I immediately felt he really cared about me. I know I haven’t said that very well but the reciprocal feelings I had at that instant so easily piggybacked on the feelings I immediately felt when you and I met. Sort of like finding a brother ….
Craig
I just saw your MVP email. I’m terribly sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I can only hope his presence, his ability to ask hard questions, application of his principles and steps are as influential wherever he is now as it was for me when I worked with you gentlemen.
Kyle
Very sorry for your loss Adam. He was a great guy!! Always had a way of looking at the positive.
Dave
Sorry to hear that, he was one of a kind! An inspiration to many and helped mold me. I don’t think about retiring anymore, he’s the reason. I want to do what gives me purpose and enjoyment. Maybe that's work, maybe it’s something else. The mold has been broken.
Bob
Oh my. That’s very sad. I didn’t know that he was ill. Thanks for telling me. He was such a special guy.
Lisa
I'm so sorry to hear Jack has passed away. What a great guy. I loved his smile. I can only imagine how hard it must be for you, as you and Jack have been partners for a long time. He will be deeply missed. Condolences to Jack's family and you and your family.
Tony
How sad. He will be missed. I am a better person because he touched my life.
Kathy
This breaks my heart. He will absolutely be missed. I am so sorry for your loss Adam! You two made quite the team." the Bob's" as Tony would say. ❤️
Michael
Oh no. So sorry to hear that Adam. I know how close the two of you were. He was such an influential man in our lives and in the development of Midan. Much gratitude for him and we will miss him!
Leslie
Oh Adam, I am heartbroken and stunned. He was such a great guy. I really thought he'd be able to get back on his feet with his determination if nothing else. I hope you are doing OK. Jack accomplished a lot in his life, not only for himself and his family, but for so many of us. I will be eternally grateful to the two of you. You got me to realize I had more to offer professionally than I thought I had. I learned a lot from you guys. So terribly sad.
Richard
I remember Jack as such a no-BS kind of guy and I can only imagine what a gift it was for you to have worked alongside of him for all these years.
Akil
I am sorry to learn and hear this news. Jack was a class act. You two helped to shape me early in my business and early in yours. Jack will forever be missed and I often think about the many lessons MVP taught me. Job well done ❤️
Gary
I am so sorry to hear the news about Jack. Although I only knew him for a relatively short time it was obvious he had special qualities and clear that you and he had a precious relationship.
Daniel
Adam this is sad news! Jack had a Unique and Fun personality. We butted heads because he was smarter than me and he knew that I knew that!! lol 😂
Craig
I was very sorry to hear about Jack's passing. His humor and stories were always appreciated and his experience spoke volumes when he made suggestions for my business. You and Jack were instrumental to the success of my business. I am glad I got to know him.
Lisa
Peanut Butter and Jelly 😊 I have always said that I want to be like Jack when I grow up, I do not want to retire just shift around a bit here and there. I will say that the greatest moment that Jack had was he did it “His Way” I will love Jack until the end of my days………..Without you and Jack, I know I would never be where I am right now, at the next Lunch with Lisa I will raise my glass and tell a great story or two.
Steve
I'm saddened to hear about the passing of Jack. He was an incredible individual and businessman that I was blessed to have met and worked with as a client. The knowledge you both passed onto me I still use today for my own real estate business.
Mark
I have such fond memories of working with you both. There was such a powerful dynamic between you two. In some ways, I envied the connection, as that is the kind of partnership that not many have the privilege of experiencing.
Jason
I appreciate the life/values and teachings that Jack lived and showed in our brief time together.
Patrick
Jack was a good and wise man.
Kris
I certainly enjoyed our time together and will always remember Jack’s Wisdom, Laughter, and Smile.
Ned
When I think of Jack the first word that comes to mind is Gentleman. In a world of mediocre small business coaches, I found it a pleasure to share an industry with two of the best.
Barbara
A wonderful, intelligent, and accomplished guy. You have both contributed so much in support of small businesses in Northeast Ohio. I have good memories of working with you both so many years ago! He will be greatly missed by so many.
Verne
He was a benchmark model of our coaching community and respected by all.
Mike
He was a wonderful, intelligent, humorous man with a big heart for all things small business. I always enjoyed seeing and talking with him.
Bill
Jack was one of those “good guys” who is supposed to just go on and on forever. A rock. One sort of personality trait that I appreciated was that Jack would not just allow unimportant, un-thoughtful words and ideas to pass. He would challenge the “common knowledge” that was thrown around - never just accepting at face value what anybody said about business (and probably politics and other things, too??). He could look at things with this critical eye, and see right through and into, and find the right thing, the useful thing within. And I hardly knew him - but knew this about him. And he was fun to be around. He made you feel like moving a mountain was something that could be accomplished with a bit of thinking and a little hard work.
Mark
A great guy, mentor, business coach.
Nancy
Jack had a big impact on many people including me. He always made it fun and challenging.
Chuck
He was a real force of nature.
